The Association was created in 1990 within the provisions of the 1901 law on associations and is run solely by passionate volunteers. Its management is assured by a council elected in the General Assembly and by officers appointed by the council.
The principal center of interest is the Minervois, in both the departments of the Aude and the Herault.
The objective defined by its statutes is " to bring together enthusiasts of local history, genealogy and architecture, etc. ... for the study of the history of the Minervois and the genealogy of notable local families."
In practical terms, this means the study of all aspects of the history of the Minervois : human, social, geographic, religious, artistic, architectural, patrimonial ... a vast subject !
Included are genealogical studies of well known families and advice and help is available to members wishing to conduct their own research.
To further this aim, the association publishes the results of its studies and research as a quarterly review, providing contact between residents of the Minervois and a link with their region for those working and living away from home.
Quarterly conferences contribute further to the dissemination of these results and visits to sites of interest provide information in greater depth.
Finally, outings are arranged from time to time in order to participate in cultural events outside the Minervois.
In 2000-2001, conferences covered : " the confréries de pénitents en pays d'Aude" ( C.M.
Visits were made in 2000-2001 to the exhibition of 'Egyptian Coptic Art' at Cap d'Agde, the museum at Villarzel with its creator Louis GUIRAUD, Narbonne antique et médiévale. In September 2001, visits were made to Saint-Papoul and to Saint-Hilaire, under the enlightened guidance of Roger ARCHAMBAUD, and other projects are being planned ...
Conferences are open to all with entry being free ; outings are in principle restricted to members and their families. |
