Where to stay in the Minervois

This section is being repaired / reworked and this may take some time. At present, we are unable to provide visitors with any indications as to where they might find lodgings or places to stay in the Minervois.

Please note that a tax on tourism ("taxe de séjour") has now been put in place by most if not all 'communautés de communes'. Although this tax is not large on a "per bed, per night" basis, it is imposed on owners of lodgings intended for tourist use in a manner which is not entirely equitable. A total sum, X, is calculated for each lodging based on Y nights between the start and end dates of the summer season each year, multiplied by the number of beds, Z, in the property, multiplied by the amount of the tax/bed/night, T. This sum X = Y*Z*T euro is payable by the owner for the season even if he lets his property for only one week.

The area is now placing increasing reliance on tourism because of the poor and declining long term status of the wine industry. It is only natural that the communes, suppliers of common services, should seek to recover some of their costs from the visitors. However, this tax on beds, when added to the effects of the saturated state of the market and declining tourist numbers, has caused some owners to withdraw their properties from the rental market.
