The Lake at Jouarres
The swimming beach, Jouarres LakeThe swimming area, watched by a lifeguard at Jouarres Lake
Commune :Azille
Location:Although the lake is in the territory of the village of Azille, the easiest way to get there is from Homps or even from Pepieux. At Homps, cross the road bridge over the canal onto the north bank. Continue a 100 metres or so until the road bends right and on the bend, take a small turning to the left. The lake and leisure area is just under half way along the small back road from Homps to Pepieux.
From Pepieux, go eastwards through the main square, pass the church on your right, pass the school on your right and a few yards further, take the right fork to 'Le Lac de Jouarres'.
Visits:During the summer season, the lake beach is under surveillance by lifeguards and the snack bar is open for service. There are no entry charges. Off season, you can still walk on the lakeside and through the pines.
Each summer, during the 'Minervois Music Festival' there is usually one evening event held on the lakeside at Jouarres, 7th August last year, and these have been of excellent quality after a convivial open air dinner.
Comments:

Never as crowded as the Mediterranean beaches but lots of people having lots of fun with their children, in safety. A delightful leisure facility and well worth a visit especially with the children. There is plenty of free car parking.

There is a separate swimming area with trained lifeguards in charge and the beach has been prepared using pebbles and geotextiles to prevent weed growth. The sailing area is away from the bathing area. In the summer season, a range of surf board courses is on offer in the sailing area. Toilet facilities are in the base of the observation tower structure.

The snack bar offers a range of cold drinks and frozen food and provides a convenient facility for those coming without their pic-nic.
